A Greek-licensed physician reviews your request remotely, before you fly, and decides whether the treatment is appropriate. If approved, they issue a digital prescription to be filled at a licensed pharmacy in Greece.

A prescription from home does not substitute for a Greek one.

Who this route fits, and who it does not

Greece recognises six groups of indications under EOF's product characteristics of 28 September 2026, and cannabis is not a first-line therapy. It is considered where conventional treatments have not helped, were unsuitable or were not tolerated.

  • Treatment-resistant chronic pain that has not responded to other therapies
  • Neuropathic pain: trigeminal neuralgia, post-herpetic pain, phantom limb pain
  • Spasticity in multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury
  • Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy, radiotherapy or HIV treatment
  • Appetite stimulation in palliative care
  • Inflammatory bowel disease: ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease
  • Severe secondary insomnia, short-term treatment only
What is not on the list Anxiety or migraine on their own are not on the list, and sleep problems qualify only as severe secondary insomnia, short-term. Where they accompany a condition that is on the list, they form part of the clinical picture the physician assesses, but they are not grounds in their own right.
The decision is medical and rests with a Greek-licensed physician, based on an individual assessment and subject to Greek law. Meeting any item above does not guarantee approval. If the physician does not approve, the service fee is refunded in full.

FAQ

What people ask before they start

Is medical cannabis legal in Greece?
Yes. Legislation regulating medical cannabis has been in place since 2017, and pharmacies began dispensing in February 2024. Use without a prescription remains an offence, and recreational cannabis is not legal in Greece. Oversight sits with the National Organisation for Medicines (EOF).
Do I need a medical cannabis licence from my own country?
No. The process is governed by Greek law alone. The Greek physician performs a fresh, independent assessment. People who have never held a licence anywhere can still be assessed.
Do I need to be a Greek resident, or have an AMKA number, to get a prescription?
No. A patient without an AMKA number, such as a tourist, is registered in Greece's electronic prescription system under a valid passport, and the passport number appears on the prescription. That is the route decision Δ3(α)/33959/2024 of the Greek Health Ministry sets for third-country nationals staying or on holiday in Greece; EU citizens without a European Health Insurance Card use an ID card. At the pharmacy you show prescription and passport; the pharmacist dispenses only when the details match. The request itself is reviewed remotely, before you fly.
Can I bring my own medical cannabis into Greece?
No. A foreign licence or prescription is not valid in Greece, and Greek law does not permit the import of finished medical-cannabis products with more than 0.2% THC for consumption in Greece (Art. 2ΙΖ, Law 4139/2013), with exposure beginning at customs. Taking cannabis out of Israel is also an export that needs a Health Ministry permit, and we found no published procedure by which a patient can obtain one. A notarised translation of a foreign document is not an authorisation and confers no status.
Do I need approval from EOF or from a Greek embassy?
No. A Greek pharmacy asks for a Greek-licensed physician's prescription and your passport; no further approval step has been published. The National Organisation for Medicines (EOF) regulates the products; Greek embassies have no published role in prescribing or dispensing. An "approval" for bringing your own cannabis into Greece is a different matter: Greek law does not permit the import of finished medical-cannabis products with more than 0.2% THC intended for consumption in Greece (Art. 2ΙΖ, Law 4139/2013). How long does it take?
The questionnaire takes about three minutes. The physician's response time depends on your plan: on Standard, an initial reply within 24 hours and the prescription within 5 business days; on VIP, an initial reply within 2–3 hours during working hours and the prescription within one business day. Starting before you fly is strongly recommended.
What if the physician does not approve?
The service fee is settled on WhatsApp after you send the questionnaire, before the physician reviews it. If they do not approve, the full amount is refunded with no cancellation charge. Full policy.
How much does the product itself cost?
The Greek Health Ministry sets a maximum price per product in its price bulletins, and it applies in every pharmacy in the country; a pharmacy may not charge more. It is not included in the service fee, and you pay the pharmacy directly. Medical cannabis prices in Greek pharmacies, by strain, are on a separate page.
Who decides the strength and quantity?
The physician alone, based on your situation and subject to Greek regulation. It is not a patient choice. The range available in pharmacies changes over time and between pharmacies.
What happens to my medical information?
It is used solely to pass your request to the physician and have it reviewed. It is not sold and not shared with third parties for marketing. Full details in the privacy policy.
Are you doctors?
No. GreekCloud is an administrative coordination service. We do not issue prescriptions, we are not a pharmacy, we do not sell or transport products, and we do not give medical advice. Every medical decision is made by a Greek-licensed physician.
