Athens is also a transit city: many visitors stop for a day or two on the way to an island. If that is your route, it is worth redeeming here rather than waiting — the choice is wider and you are far less likely to walk into a pharmacy that does not dispense medical cannabis.

Local tipIf you continue to an island the same day, remember the product stays with you inside Greece — a domestic flight is not a border crossing. Still, carry the prescription and your passport on the internal leg.

Seasonality

When to come, and what changes

Athens is the least seasonal destination in Greece. The airport runs at full capacity all year and flights arrive daily even in January. What changes is the crowd: July and August are very hot and busy, and in August many local businesses close for their own annual holiday. In winter the city is quiet, pleasant for walking, and every service operates normally.

Planning your timing

Because flights are so frequent, Athens is the easiest place to recover from a planning mistake. Even people who start late usually find a way. Still, there is no reason to rely on that. A questionnaire filled in three days before departure gives the physician comfortable room on any plan.

The process is the same everywhere in Greece, and the prescription is valid at any licensed pharmacy in the country. You fill in a questionnaire, a Greek-licensed physician reviews it and decides independently, and if approved you receive a digital prescription in your passport name.

If the prescription is already in hand, yes — redeeming at a pharmacy takes minutes. If you have not started the process, one day is tight even on VIP and depends on working hours. Start before you fly.
Can I redeem at the airport?
Airport pharmacies do not necessarily dispense medical cannabis. Do not plan around it. Redeem in the city, where the choice is much wider.
