Medical Cannabis in Santorini — for visitors
Santorini is a small island built around luxury tourism. The infrastructure exists, but it is limited — and this is exactly where landing with a prescription already in hand is worth a day of your holiday.
The place
What to know about Santorini
- Fira and Oia concentrate the services
- Short distances, but heavy traffic in season
- A very popular honeymoon destination
- Regular ferries to Crete and Mykonos
Pharmacies are concentrated in Fira, the island's capital. Oia and the other villages are far more limited. At peak season traffic on the main road is very slow, and a drive that should take 20 minutes can take an hour.
Seasonality
When to come, and what changes
Santorini has the sharpest seasonality of any Greek island. Between May and September it is packed, prices peak and traffic is heavy. In winter many hotels and restaurants in Oia close entirely and Fira is the only fully functioning centre. Direct flights from Tel Aviv and much of Europe run in season, roughly May to October; off-season the usual route is via Athens by domestic flight or ferry.
Planning your timing
With three or four nights and a physician review window measured in days, the arithmetic does not work unless you start early. This is the destination where advance planning stops being a convenience and becomes the requirement.
The process
Arriving with a prescription in hand
The process is the same everywhere in Greece, and the prescription is valid at any licensed pharmacy in the country. You fill in a questionnaire, a Greek-licensed physician reviews it and decides independently, and if approved you receive a digital prescription in your passport name.
You can start before you fly. Full details in the guide, including response times by plan and what happens if the physician does not approve.
